From foam balls to Big West Player of the Year
Brandon Bauman was the kid who wanted one more bucket of balls before the sun went down. He found the game in elementary school, through an after-school instructor who taught the basics with foam balls, and grew up playing in Las Vegas.
He got very good. At UC Santa Barbara he won the 2015 San Diego City Amateur at Torrey Pines in a playoff, then in 2015-16 was Big West Player of the Year and won the conference's individual title, only the third Gaucho ever to do it. A year later he was part of the UCSB team that won the Big West for the first time since 1998, and as a senior in 2018 he tied for the individual lead before losing a two hole playoff. He turned pro in 2019 and earned conditional status on the Mackenzie Tour through Q-School.
These days he coaches full time. The goal on his website is to "make golf more approachable and enjoyable for everyone," and he runs an online academy and gives lessons online and in person. He only started his YouTube channel in July 2025 and has already posted more than 500 videos. About 20,700 people subscribe, and more than 64,000 follow him on TikTok.
What you get is a coach who plays the courses he talks about. The long videos are full rounds and honest reviews at places like Chambers Bay, Whistling Straits and Erin Hills, with every hole marked so you can skip around. At Chambers Bay he shot 1 over from the tips after making two swing changes mid-round, which is exactly what he tells his students to do. One of his most watched, a round at Gold Mountain he calls one of Washington's best courses you've never heard of, is past 24,000 views. The Shorts are quick fixes: putting drills, alignment sticks, grip, a pre-shot routine.
We featured him on October 2 for Sahalee in Sammamish, Washington, host of the 1998 PGA Championship and his pick for the narrowest course in the world. Thirty one minutes, all 18 holes. Good luck finding the fairway.
