A first round on camera under 400 pounds

John Baker has been on YouTube since 2013, and his golf channel took shape in 2017 with a series called Course Vlog: solo rounds at Ohio courses, starting at Shawnee Hills in Bedford. He called it Fat Guy Golf, and he calls it the original of fat guys on the internet golfing.

What carried it was company. His most watched video, at about 391,000 views, is BIGvsTHIN, a match play round against his best friend and camera man Tim, a 3.5 handicap who got four clubs to John's full bag to make it fair. In July 2018 he thanked viewers for a million minutes of watch time.

He has told the other half of the story himself. He was filmed at over 570 pounds eight years ago. In February 2020 he walked nine holes, something he hadn't done in maybe ten years, and in 2023 he said the change had come through weight lifting.

He doesn't post as often as he used to, and he says so on the channel. What you get is a full round, a friend or a scramble partner, and a number on the card he is chasing, like breaking 90 or breaking 100.

We featured him on October 15 for his first round on camera under 400 pounds, trying to break 100 at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown, Ohio. "It's been a long road on YouTube and an even longer road getting here," he writes in the description, and he wanted viewers to be there for it.
