Most people who fall for golf buy their first set of clubs. James Colin Davis pulled his out of a garbage pile, and he has been doing things the hard way ever since.

He is a Quebec pro, from Hudson, who found the game at 13 as a junior member at Whitlock Golf & Country Club. At 18 he walked away from it, and for the best part of ten years golf was something he used to do. It came back as weekend rounds, and with it a slow realisation: he could still play, and the day job wasn't making him happy. "I've always been the one that has to do something I enjoy," he told The Link in 2021.

So he jumped. When his Montreal office closed and he was laid off, the severance paid for a move to Florida in 2015. He turned pro in 2017, spent a few years teaching as an assistant pro back at Whitlock, and won his first professional event, the Sept-Îles Invitational, in 2020. He turned 40 this summer. He is still at it. His most watched upload, Back Where It All Started... With a Chance to Win, is past 58,000 views, with his Monday qualifier film, The Side of Pro Golf No One Sees, next.
