Breaking 80 without the distance
Mistah Short Hitter puts the whole channel in one line of his description: "you don't need 300-yard drives to shoot great scores." He carries the ball about 205 yards, plays real tournaments, and has spent years showing how a shorter hitter still gets it around in under 80.
He is an on-course creator based in the Chicago area, and the channel joined YouTube on October 28, 2020. It now has 20,200 subscribers and more than 4.7 million views. The pitch he closes his description with is real golf, not hype.
His most watched video is How I BREAK 80 as a SHORT HITTER with 17 TIPS!, at about 122,000 views. The next is a set of tips for breaking 85, at about 94,000, and then a Cleveland CBX versus RTX wedge comparison, at about 55,000. Equipment comparisons and short-hitter instruction fill most of the popular list.
What you get is a mix of all of it: product reviews, matches, tips, and course reviews, with a two man championship at Springbrook in Naperville among the recent ones. The rounds are about decisions, because a short hitter has to place every tee shot.
On October 8 he launched a series called 18 Courses. One Goal. Break 80 Across the Midwest. He ranks the courses from easiest to hardest and calls it part of his journey back to scratch.
We featured him on October 17 for the front nine of round one at Arlington Lakes, a par 68 park district course in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The back nine followed a day later, and round two comes the week after.
