How we score

We use the price studies from 2024 on: Supreme Golf's average booked tee time in 2024, GreenFeeTracker's 2026 weekday rates and, for the nine states it published, the National Golf Foundation's 2025 averages. They measure different prices, so we rank every state inside each study, from cheapest to most expensive, and average those places. A state needs at least 2 studies to be ranked, since only two recent studies cover every state.

We don't show dollar figures. The studies average every tee time, including twilight, off-peak and city courses, so their numbers run well below what a weekend morning round costs. The order of the states is what they agree on. A state that was cheapest in every study would score 100, and most expensive in every study, 40.

Nobody pays to be on this list, and we don't use affiliate links.
